Cultural environment

Although Nakskov Fjord has a beautiful landscape and stunning scenery, it is especially worth noting a unique cultural environment. We can actually follow human activity on and around Nakskov Fjord from the first Danes immigrating after the Ice Age to the present day.

The first people

After the ice had left Denmark, the first people migrated up from the south. We know that some of the very first reindeer hunters settled on Sølvbjerghøj south of Nakskov Fjord. They settled in the highest places, as from these heights they could observe herds of migrating reindeer and hunt them. It is therefore also believed that they settled on the even higher ridge at Enehøje, from where there was a fine view over the valley that is now the Langeland Belt.
